WELCOME TO FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF EVANS |
Welcome!
The First Baptist Church of Evans merged with the First Baptist Church of Augusta in May 2023.
While FBC Evans, after almost 93 years, no longer gathers on the corner of Belair and Washington Roads, our legacy will
live on, in part, in the life and ministry of the First Baptist Church of Augusta.
That legacy will include many of the members of FBC Evans. It
will also include the value of our property, which will fund
two significant endowments through FBC Augusta. One endowment will perpetually support
ministry and mission in the Evans community. The other endowment will be used
by FBC Augusta, year after year, to support ministry and mission from Augusta to the ends of the earth.
Over FBC Evans' 93-year history,
since August 10, 1930, close to 3,000 people were members of this church.
They gave their time, talents, and financial support to the work of Christ's
kingdom. Innumerable people have benefited from the fellowship, spiritual training,
worship, ministry, and mission work of this church.
We pray that their investment
here continues to bless and equip many for living in the Way of Jesus. Good seeds have been planted in FBC
Evans' time here, and we are blessed to keep watching new cycles of planting, growth, and harvest in ways and places far beyond what we could imagine. To God be the
glory!

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF EVANS NEWS |
Our
Story_____________
The First Baptist Church of Evans, Georgia was founded on
August 10, 1930. It was formed to create a Baptist church in a rural
community. Over the years the community grew until our
campus was at the main crossroads of Evans in one of the
fastest-growing counties in Georgia. Our campus occupied the south corner of
North Belair and Washington Roads, the two major commuter arteries in east
Columbia County. Our original neighbors were pecan groves and farmland, but now
we are adjacent to the Evans Towne Center Shopping Center and across
the street from Lowes, Home Depot, and Cracker Barrel.
Although we are part of a traditional Southern community, First Baptist Church
of Evans has been progressive in some ways. During the civil rights movement in
the 1960s, we were one of the first churches in our community to welcome racial
integration in worship and in membership. In the 1970s we were the first
Baptist church in the Augusta area, as far as we know, to elect and ordain
women to the diaconate.
While we have a long history in this community, our congregation is not
tradition-bound. The lifelong Evans residents among us have embraced the
"newcomers" who've moved here to work at Fort Eisenhower (formerly Fort Gordon), Savannah River
Site, the medical facilities, and the other industrial, educational, and
commercial employers in our area.
The First Baptist Church of Evans partnered with the Cooperative Baptist
Fellowship, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Augusta Association
of Baptist Churches. We are a fellowship of believers who profess Christ
as Lord and Savior. We are committed to His commandment: "You shall love
the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and all your
strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke
10:27)
