Our Story_____________

The First Baptist Church of Evans, Georgia was founded on August 10, 1930, and within three months had 14 charter members. The first pastor was Rev. J. C. Myditt and there have only been five other pastors in the intervening 68 years. Dr. John A. Miller served the Church for 25 years before he retired in 1991, and Dr. Andrew Menger served until August 1997. Our present pastor, Steve Spencer, joined us in 1999.

First Baptist Evans is located in the commercial center of Evans. It is adjacent to the Evans Towne Center Shopping Center and immediately across the street from Lowe's home improvement store. The Church occupies the south corner of North Belair and Washington Roads, the two major commuter arteries in East Columbia County. Columbia County serves as the residence for many people who work in neighboring Augusta, the second largest metropolitan area in Georgia, and Fort Gordon, as well as employees of the rapidly developing businesses and industry in Columbia County.

First Baptist of Evans is a Southern Baptist Church which also supports the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We are a fellowship of believers who profess Christ as Lord and Savior. We are committed to His commandment: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27)

We have a prime location within the community, unequaled opportunities as a church, and a determination to make an eternal difference in our community. We believe in the words of Mordecai that God has located the First Baptist Church of Evans in this place "for such a time as this."
